Geography
Geography: If you haven't noticed we live in a big complex world. The main theme in my geography class is how does Geography Influence History, History Influences explains our modern life. This class seeks to help students understand the world and the people in it. Why do some countries experience economic success and others don't. Why do different ways of life develop in different areas. How do we fit into this picture picture.
First Semester, The Basics. The first semester will deal mostly with the basics of geography. What is geography? How does the world form? Why do we have seasons? Why do we have the climate we do and how does that affect us? How do cultures form? Kind kinds of governments and economies are there? What are the benefits and draw backs of each? Students will be surprised to learn the geography is much more than maps, geography impacts their daily lives.
Second Semester, Western Civilizations. In the second semester we start applying what we learned in the first semester to continents and countries of the Western Hemisphere. We start with North America paying special attention to the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Student will deal with questions about how those counties relate to each other, and the issues that each face. Then we will go further south discussing the Latin American nations of Central America and South America focusing particularly on the issues that face the area and why. The year will end with students discussing the countries of Europe. Europe has a massive amount of history and culture and will likely take the majority of the second semester. Europe offers students a great opportunity to see Geography and its effecton history at a global scale.
